“Warriors”: Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis Orchestrate a Musical Battle Cry for the Big Apple!
In a bold move that blends the worlds of musical theater, hip-hop, and cult cinema, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis have released their highly anticipated concept album, Warriors. Inspired by the 1979 Paramount Pictures cult film The Warriors, this immersive listening experience reimagines the gritty tale of New York City gang culture with a star-studded cast and innovative musical approach.
The album, which dropped on October 18, 2024, was celebrated with an exclusive release party that drew notable attendees including Nas, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Kim Dracula, Chris Jackson, Aneesa Folds, Flaco Navaja, and Casey Likes. The event not only marked the launch of the album but also coincided with Miranda and Davis gracing the cover of Time Out New York, cementing the project’s cultural significance.

Warriors follows the journey of a fictitious New York City gang from Coney Island to the Bronx and back, as they navigate a treacherous cityscape after being framed for the murder of a respected gang leader. The concept album format allowed Miranda and Davis to push creative boundaries, freed from the constraints of traditional stage production.
“We’ve spent the past three years musicalizing the Warriors’ journey home, from the South Bronx to Coney Island,” Miranda and Davis shared. “We created this narrative for you to experience it as a whole, so listen to the album straight through with your people, again and again.”
Executive produced by GRAMMY® Award-winning rap icon Nas and produced by 3x GRAMMY® Award-winning musician Mike Elizondo, ‘Warriors’ boasts an impressive lineup of talent. The cast includes:
- Ms. Lauryn Hill as Cyrus
- Busta Rhymes representing Brooklyn
- Ghostface Killah and RZA for Staten Island
- Chris Rivers as The Bronx
- Cam’ron as Manhattan
- Nas as Queens
- Billy Porter, Michaela Jaé, and Mykal Kilgore as The Hurricanes

The album also features a powerhouse ensemble of Broadway talent, including Phillipa Soo, Amber Gray, and Jasmine Cephas Jones, among others.
While Warriors pays homage to its source material, it also delves deeper into themes of community, peace, and the struggle for autonomy. Davis emphasized the album’s focus on the possibility of peace and the dream of unity among different factions.

“There’s all these fears in it, of being falsely accused, of being lost, of not being able to get home. But there’s also this hope, that peace is possible,” Davis reflected.
As of now, there are no concrete plans for a stage production of Warriors. Miranda and Davis are focused on letting audiences experience the album in its current form, allowing the narrative to unfold through the music and interspersed dialogue.
“We don’t have a director, we don’t have a producer, we just have an album,” Miranda stated, leaving the door open for future possibilities while celebrating the unique format of the concept album.
For fans of musical innovation, New York City lore, and star-powered collaborations, Warriors promises to be an auditory adventure unlike any other. The album is available now on all major streaming platforms and for purchase.
