“I’m just going to assume that you are all criminals.”
Annapurna Pictures just released its trailer for DETROIT, a thriller set in Detroit, Michigan in 1967, during the NBA Finals last night. The most terrifying part of the trailer isn’t the gun violence or blood, it’s the fact that these events took place in real life.
The film “tells the gripping story of one of the most terrifying moments during the civil unrest that rocked Detroit in the summer of ’67,” according to the film’s press release. The film is directed by Academy Award winning director Kathryn Bigelow also known for The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty and stars John Boyega and Will Poulter.
Annapurna Pictures is committed to producing content that is “critically and commercially conscious,” while creating films for a diverse audience. The thriller flashes clips from the actual riot, showcasing the chaos and military style weapons used to contain rioters.
The 1967 Detroit Riot or the 12th Street Riot is still known as one of the deadliest riots in history. While the film has yet to be rated, it is set to debut in theaters across the country, August 8 2017.
