Last week The Knockturnal had the pleasure of attending Rag’N’Bone Man’s first New York performance and it was amazing!

The English singer-songwriter’s journey began at hip hop label High Focus, and you can still hear him incorporate rap into a few of his songs today. He’s worked with artists such as Vince Staples and Kate Tempest and producers like Mark Crew, but rose to prominence after signing with Columbia Records. In July 2016, Rag’N’Bone Man released his pop-off track “Human” which has racked nearly 185 million views on Youtube and won the 2017 Brit Awards for British Breakthrough Act and Choice Award. Rag’N’Bone also released his debut album also titled Human in February 2017 and is now currently on tour in Europe.

Last Thursday night Bowery Ballroom was jam packed with fans, some American and some British Expats, all excited to see Rag’N’Bone Man’s first New York City show. The stage design was beautifully spooky with two large “Dia de los Muertos” skulls. When Rag’N’Bone Man took the stage he seemed to be the perfect mix of calm, laid back and slightly nervous. Rag’N’Bone Man started off with some of his earlier works before moving on to tracks from his debut album and eventually led into his biggest hits.

Before he even began signing the crowd was shouting and cheering for him. He started off with the classic “St. James” and played hits like “Ego,” “The Fire,” “Grace,” “Fade To Nothing” and of course “Human.” The crowd was sad to see Rag’N’Bone Man go, and after watching him live I can understand why. His voice is  beautiful blend of  soul, blues and gospel with brief moments of rap. His debut album is out now so go check out his work on Apple Music and Spotify!
