Stephen Daldry’s Trash is set to premiere in NYC at AMC Empire and in LA’s Sundance Sunset this Friday, along with viewings in Digital HD and OnDemand.

Starring Martin Sheen and Rooney Mara, Trash follows the story of three trash picking boys from the slums of Rio, Brazil. The boys, played by Rickson Tevis, Eduardo Luis, and Gabriel Weinstein, find a wallet among the trash and then their lives completely change. After the police come around boasting a large reward for the return of the wallet, the boys realize that the wallet has important value to it. They entrust the help of two American missionaries, Julliard (played by Sheen), a priest at the end of his wits, and the father’s assistant, Olivia (played by Mara).

With the help of the Americans, the boys find out the wallet belongs to Jose Angelo (played by Wagner Moura), a man who was in the midst of uncovering political corruption in the slums. The boys must hold onto the wallet as they hide from the police, led by Captain Frederico (Selton Mello).

Daldry also directed “Billy Elliot,” “The Hours,” and “The Reader,” while Richard Curtis wrote the film as an adaptation of the book of the same name by Andy Mulligan. Check out the teasers below and be sure to check out the film Friday.

Catherina "Cat" Gioino is a native New Yorker, a huge movie buff and an amateur pizzaiolo. She currently works in transportation policy in New York, and previously was a breaking news reporter for the New York Daily News, and had stints at MSNBC, NY1, PBS and the Queens Gazette-- and was at The Knock since the beginning. When she's not biking around her hometown of Astoria or testing out the train system of another country, you can find her slinging wine and drinks at a friend's local bar.
