Hamilton’s soundtrack debuts on three Billboard charts.
Following it’s digital release on Sept. 25 Hamilton (Original Broadway Cast) rose to #1 on the Billboard Top Broadway Albums chart, but more surprisingly it managed to a debut on the Top Rap Albums and Top Current Albums charts at #3 and #9 respectively.
The success on the charts are not only unexpected, but historic. A Broadway album hasn’t had this big of a selling week since Rent. Like Larson’s musical, Hamilton is pushing the boundaries of musical theatre taking on the subject of a historic figure with rap music as the vehicle for storytelling. The innovation has clearly paid off.
Physical copies and a two disc set of the album will be available worldwide on Oct. 16th. The cast will be celebrating the release with a Q and A and signing at Barnes and Noble’s Lexington Avenue location. Creator and the show’s Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda will be answering questions at the event. All the information about the event is available on Barnes and Noble’s site.
Based off of Ron Chernow’s biography Alexander Hamilton, the musical follows the first Treasury Secretary’s life as he shapes America through his revolutionary ideas and actions until he meets his death abruptly in the renowned duel with Aaron Burr.
