On Sept. 21, Maria Cuomo Cole invited us to a special lunch honoring the film at 21 Club. Armor of Light follows an evangelical minister, Reverend Rob Schenk, who struggles with his stance on pro-life issues and Lucy McBath, a mother who lost her son through gun violence.

The documentary takes places in Washington D.C., where Reverend Schenk practices. Cameras follow his day to day life and his role as a conservation Christian facing his struggle in coming out to his community on his position regarding gun violence. In the film, Reverend Schenk is placed into situations that make him constantly rethink and reevualate the moral and ethical components behind the will of the gun. As a representative in a community of highly right wing advocates for conservatism and the Christian faith, he comes across many arguments favoring pro-gun ideas, through meeting his colleagues speaking to his fellowship.
Simultaneously, the audience is introduced Lucy McBath and her compelling story with gun violence; the lost of her son made a pivotal change in her life to advocate for gun control in the United States. In the middle of the film, she and Reverend Schenk have the chance to meet which becomes the turning point of the story.

Through this unique narrative of two very different individuals, a dynamic storyline unfolds of how religion, politics, and the value of life come together to evaluate one of the modern struggles that we all face today. Armor of Light conveys an unequivocally emotional outreach to one of the most controversial topics in our country and the importance it holds in many people’s lives.

Armor of Light is coming to theaters October 30.
