The German Consulate in New York City hosted a formal reception on Nov. 18 in anticipation of the 64th annual Quadrille Ball, which will take place on Feb 8. 2025 at the famous Plaza Hotel.
The white-tie charity event is part of the German-American Scholarship Association, a non-profit dedicated to raising funds for qualified undergraduate, graduate and PhD students enrolled at universities in the United States and Germany. Recent sponsors of the organization include Microsoft, the Mejean Family Foundation and the Max Kade Foundation.
Pursuing positive transatlantic relationships and cultural understanding, the German-American Scholarship Association encourages study exchanges and research for students at their respective universities. Recipients of the scholarship are chosen in conjunction with the Fulbright program, the Institute of International Education and Columbia University. Over 700 students have benefitted from this association.
At the reception, participants from the upcoming Quadrille Ball performed for guests. These participants engage in weekly dance rehearsals in anticipation of the ball, which offers them opportunities to socialize and meet former Quadrille dancers through post-rehearsal after-parties. These dancers will showcase their skills at the ball, where they will wear the Quadrille’s iconic white dresses and tails and greet guests before performing the Quadrille Dance.
The event also included remarks from President of the German-American Scholarship Association, Dr. Barbara Elling, Co-Chairs of the Quadrille Ball Committee, JB Kresser and Irmintraud Jost, Lisa Hollenbach and Billy Hughes.
During the Quadrille Ball, guests will enjoy a cocktail reception, three-course dinner, dancing and a Küka Club, consisting of a light buffet and drinks. There will also be a silent auction for the Quadrille Stipend Fund, which will benefit scholarship recipients.
2025 Guest of Honor Lya F. Pfeifer will be recognized at the Quadrille Ball. Pfeifer is the president of the Max Kade Foundation, which promotes Germanic studies and transatlantic relationships through sponsoring exchange programs between Germany, Austria and the U.S.
