The cast and director discuss bringing Amazon Prime Video's newest YA series to life

Directed by Megan Park and executive produced alongside Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, Sterling Point follows Annie Jacobson (Ella Rubin) whose life takes a turn when she inherits her mysterious grandfather’s island in Canada.

There, she finds new friends, budding romances, and untold family secrets, including a secret sister Ramona, played by Amélie Hoeferle.

The Knockturnal’s Mana Faye sat down with the director and cast to talk about the characters, plot, and what audiences can look forward to. Reflecting on Annie’s journey, Rubin shared what she found most relatable about the character.

“Her willingness to be vulnerable really resonated with me because it’s not an easy thing,” said the Anora actress. “I think she associates vulnerability with weakness or feeling like you don’t have your life together. Seeing her go from ignoring her true feelings to fully confronting them was something I really connected with in her journey.”

Megan Park, who has made a mark in the young adult (YA) storytelling space through her acclaimed projects like The Fallout and My Old Ass, expressed her excitement for the series debut.

“I spent so many years in the TV-YA world, and it didn’t always feel like I was being represented in the most authentic way, or that the stories reflected the things I saw my peers talking about. Part of me was excited by the challenge of creating a YA show that felt really authentic and grounded, while still keeping the qualities we all love about the genre: the nostalgia, the coming-of-age experience, first love, love triangles, and those relationship dynamics.”

Sterling Point marks her first original series, and she says through the collaboration with industry veterans like Savage and Schwartz, the creators of The O.C. and Gossip Girl, she has gained a greater appreciation for a generation that is often misunderstood.

The young ensemble cast also has some buzzy names, including Mark Ruffalo’s son Keen Ruffalo, Nikko Angelo Hinayo, Mabel Strachan, and future Legend of Zelda movie star Bo Bragason. Alongside the young stars are familiar faces like Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jay Duplass and Missi Pyle.

Sterling Point joins a host of other YA dramas produced by Amazon Prime, following in the footsteps of major hits like Off Campus and The Summer I Turned Pretty. While much of the plot remains under wraps ahead of the premiere, the excitement is already building, with the official trailer surpassing 10 million views and counting.

It also wouldn’t be a YA show without the beloved love triangle trope, and Sterling Point is no exception. Annie is caught between Ellis (Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie) and Rory (Daniel Quinn-Toye), two boys whose opposing personalities bring an engaging tension to the story as she navigates her feelings for both.

When asked what she hoped audiences take away from the series, Park reinforced the challenges of visibility as a young adult.

“I hope people feel seen in some way. Even if characters make mistakes or handle situations imperfectly, I don’t think any character in this show is like a straight villain or a straight good guy. I think that’s not real to real life anyway. I just hope that audiences are able to connect to at least one character on the show.”

All eight episodes of Sterling Point Season 1 will be streaming August 5, 2026, exclusively on Prime Video.
