Meet DJ Sophia Rocks: The 16-Year-Old DJ Making History

In an industry that can be notoriously difficult to break into, especially for young artists, DJ Sophia Rocks has emerged to carve out a name for herself as one of the most exciting young talents in the music industry.

After meeting Sophia for the first time in Nashville at the Blavity House Party, It quickly became clear that she has an unyielding love for her craft. Once she hit the stage for her 30-minute set, Sophia easily captivated the audience with her impressive skills, seamlessly mixing musical genres from all eras while bringing an infectious energy to the room filled with hundreds of festivalgoers.

At just 16 years old, the Delaware native’s journey from a young music enthusiast watching her father DJ to deciding to follow in his footsteps at the tender age of six. Her early training taught her the basics like understanding DJ equipment and the intricacies of mixing music. Her natural talent along with her undeniable passion for music was obvious to everyone around her at the time, and it wasn’t long before she was taking her talents to the stage.

That passion and determination have led her to achieve more than many could dream of in a lifetime. DJ Sophia Rocks has not only gained a great deal of recognition for her talent but has also proven that age is no barrier to breaking barriers.

Since starting her career, DJ Sophia Rocks has crafted mixes for networks like CBS and NBC, and events like the WNBA All-Star game. She has been recognized with several accolades as the youngest person to perform at Madison Square Garden, Sway in the Morning, and more. She has also shared the stage with some of the biggest artists of today including Cardi B, Usher, Lil Kim, Jamie Foxx, and Chris Brown.

One of the key factors behind Sophia’s rapid rise to fame is her ability to connect with her audience, on and off the stage. Her social media played a significant role in her success, with platforms like Instagram and TikTok being instrumental in showcasing her talent on a global scale. Consistently sharing music, behind-the-scenes glimpses of her life as a young DJ, and engaging with her fans garnered her a loyal following and millions of views on her videos.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sophia performed at Erykah Badu’s after-party for the Jill Scott Verzuz event and was featured on DJ D-Nice’s Club Quarantine, earning the nickname “Club Quarantine Princess.”

Whether she’s performing at a party, a major music festival, or a high-profile event, DJ Sophia Rocks has cultivated a remarkable ability to read the crowd and it’s evident in the amount of time and effort she puts into perfecting her craft. But balancing life as a young teenager with a fast-growing career isn’t easy. Regardless, Sophia remains grounded and focused. Her family and friends support and guide her as much as possible, ensuring she maintains the balance needed to navigate the demands of her career and studies.

We talked with DJ Sophia Rocks about her life as a child prodigy, what it’s like becoming an inspiration for other young aspiring DJs everywhere, her ‘icks’ when performing a set, her plans to produce her music, and how dinner at DJ Jazzy Jeff’s house inspired her to keep going.
