Last week we sat down with the lawyer-turned-producer Jordan ‘J.B.’ Beckerman, and Jordan Yale Levine, one of Variety’s 10 Producers to Watch, to learn about their journey to becoming a co-founders of a powerhouse production team.
It’s pretty hard to make a production company a household name. Even though A24 has taken over the main stream avant-garde niche of the entertainment intdustry, their content consists mostly of films in which the creators are given a lot more creative control.
Yale Productions has been able to make their films by putting the creators first. Jordan Yale Levin said more often than not, they want to make financially responsible movies, but mostly putting the creators first. He has a lot of different roles as producer which can vary from obtaining money to figuring out how to distribute the budget well, as well as balancing the investment aspect with the creativity.
His partner, Jordan Beckerman (who goes by J.B.), was originally a lawyer and has helped Jordan take on the entertainment industry by storm, also going through scripts sometimes very hands on, to ensure the movies they make stay true to the source. Recently produced films that are currently in post production include “Barron’s Cove” starring Garrett Hedlund and Stephen Lang; the Italian-set potboiler “Electra” starring Oscar® nominee Maria Bakalova; espionage thriller “Fog of War” with John Cusack;
We had the pleasure of sitting down to talk more about what exactly Yale Productions does and what kind of content they invest in. We talked about an array of topics, ranging from how they got started in the business to what they plan to do in the industry.
