The highly anticipated new miniseries, “Full Circle,” from Steven Soderberg premiered the first two episodes at the 2023 Tribeca Festival before its release this summer on Max, HBO’s new revamped streaming service.
“Full Circle” was written and directed by Ed Solomon and Stephen Soderberg, respectively, and stars an immensely talented ensemble cast. The miniseries is a reunion for Solomon and Soderberg after working on the HBO Max film, “No Sudden More,” last year. The powerhouse “Full Circle” cast includes Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Timothy Olyphant, Dennis Quaid, Adia, Jharrel Jerome, CCH Pounder, Phaldut Sharma, Sheyi Cole, Gerald Jones, Suzanne Savoy, Ethan Stoddart, and Lucian Zanes.
The series begins as a botched kidnapping of Sam and Derek Browne’s son gone wrong. An investigation spearheaded by Harmony (Zazie Beetz) leads to uncovering secrets about the past of the Browne family and connections to multiple cultures and other characters in the series, going “Full Circle.” The series intertwines the complexities of numerous cultures that make New York City so unique.

We had the opportunity to speak to several of the cast membersat the world premiere at BMCC Theater, including Claire Danes, Zazie Beetz, Jim Gaffigan, Aida, and more, as well as the Executive Producer Casey Silver. They all praised the work of the incomparable Director, Steven Soderberg. Zazie Beetz worked with Soderberg for the second time after working together in the 2019 film “High Flying Bird.” Not only did Steven Soderberg direct, but he was the cinematographer, DP, and even Claire Danes added, edited as they went along, and often only filmed one take of a scene. Jim Gaffigan told us: “It’s so impressive to watch him; he’s doing everything. And he has this team that he’s worked with for so long, and it’s just a well-tuned machine.
“Full Circle” is a must-watch series if you love investigative storylines with comedic elements despite the dark nature of the story. The representation of the beautiful Guyanese culture is incredible to see, and even more so that several actors and actresses in the series are from Guyana. Emerging actress Adia portrays Natalia, a young Guyanese woman who came to New York to better her life and then becomes entangled in a messy situation leading to her brother becoming involved. “It’s really just a story of homegoing [and] my character Natalia trying to find her voice to take care of herself and her brother because the stakes are so high,” she said.
Zazie Beetz spoke with The Knockturnal about the diverse representation and casting and said, “To see yourself represented is very impactful; normalizing who you are and that the world recognizes and sees you. It sounds rather cliche, but it’s true,” she said. “To give voice and to see minority stories and people from marginalized communities is, I think, really empowering, so I feel so fortunate to be a part of that story right now, and in the time that we’re in, it’s possible.
