One of the most acclaimed collectors in the world came to the Big Apple this month and showcased a display of epic proportions.
The savvy businessman and owner & CEO of the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, Jim Irsay, is no stranger to accomplishing things on a beautifully large scale.
On June 2, hundreds of guests gathered at Hammerstein Ballroom to experience The Jim Irsay Collection.
This impressive and one-of-a-kind show brought forth enchanting emotions and euphoric nostalgia at one of the Big Apple’s most unique parties. To celebrate the exhibit, which ran for two days, Irsay showcased a display that captivated the minds and imaginations of all attendees.
Observing the grand venue full of historical artifacts, guests took in the sight that included musical instruments and items owned and used by some of the greatest artists in music history, including Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Prince, Eric Clapton, Elton John, The Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia, Les Paul, Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour, The Doors’ Jim Morrison and other music icons. It also showed autographed photos, handwritten lyrics and other historical music memorabilia.
Outside of music, the collection includes signed Presidential artifacts, important original documents from American history like an original ‘Wanted’ poster for John Wilkes Booth, Jackie Robinson’s bat, Paul McCartney’s original “Hey Jude” handwritten studio lyrics and other historical relics.
The brilliant party had special live performances from the Jim Irsay Band with vocals by Mike Wanchic on guitar, Mike Mills on bass, Tom Bukovac on guitar and Kenny Wayne Shepherd on blues guitar. Also playing was Kenny Aronoff on drums with special guest performer Natalie Merchant.
As proven at the soiree, Irsay should easily win the crowning title of King of Pop Culture after hosting such a fantastic night that one of the most stunning parties in recent New Yorkers memory. The debut was the launch of a public tour that allows lucky attendees to experience the magic of a man who so passionately has collected and now shares some of the world’s most impressive items.
Irsay has toured the collection through a series of exclusive events, but the two days the public got to experience the items up close and personal was unheard of. It was a gift. A true gift that will never be forgotten.
