Here are My Non-Spoiler Thoughts on Fear The Walking Dead Episodes 7×09 and 7×10

Alycia Debnam-Carey as Alicia Clark - Fear the Walking Dead
4.2K

After a long break, Fear The Walking Dead is back.

I got the chance to watch 7×09 titled “Follow Me” and 7×10 titled “Morning Cloak.” There is a ton to unpack here. In this preview, there will be slight spoilers so be cautious!

“Follow Me” is focused on Alicia as she is with a man named Paul. Paul is an interesting character because he is hearing impaired and he can still find ways to take down the dead. I will also give the sound design team credit for making the viewer look in Paul’s sound of view. It is quite similar to Connie on the main show. During the episode, There is a dream sequence that connects to what Alicia did in another character’s perspective. I cannot say what the actions were, but it was interesting to see how it was pulled off.

The structure of the episode is good, but it did not leave me hooked to see what was coming next for Alicia. This is because Fear The Walking Dead has this trope of introducing too many new characters that does not progress the story. However, there is a good scene during a walker kill sequence that I enjoyed. All I can say is to get your bagpipe ready!

“Morning Cloak” is a great episode and in my opinion, should have been the one to kick off the second half. Charlie is all over this episode of Fear The Walking Dead and she had a plan for the group to infiltrate Strand’s tower. Of course not all the plans work as it lead to a huge consequence. Also, there is a young person Howard recruited to train as he tasked the person on a mission. Also to note, John Sr. is reminding me more of the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s Ocelot. I say this because he knows exactly what role to play regardless of which side he is on. You will have to see it for yourself.

This is one of the better episodes of the season. I will not say who, but one of the characters got radiation poising. It is looking fatal for that character. Of all the inconsistent times the radiation came into play, this is one of the times that it affected one of the group.

Overall, I like the direction both episodes are heading. I do think that the anthology structure is starting to get tiring. I hope that the next season of Fear The Walking Dead goes away with this type of storytelling.

The first two episodes of the second half of Fear’s seventh season will stream early on AMC+ on April 17th!
