Today Yachty joins us to discuss his participation in Charmin’s Crap Battle, a rapping competition that challenges artists to freestyle about the brand while talking smack. The competitors include Lil Yachty, Rico Nasty, and Lil Dicky. Starting June 14th fans can head to Charmin’s Instagram to vote for their favorite freestyle and winners will be announced on June 16th.
In addition to the Crap Battle, Yachty also discussed his plans for the summer which includes playing festivals like Rolling Loud and more drops from his unisex nail polish brand Crete. Not only has Yachty been working on his own business he’s also started investing in other companies like dating app The Lox Club. Yachty discusses how he got involved in the business venture and how he’s also transitioned into the business side of music by signing his own artists. Yachty shares that’ he’s been working with his latest signee DC2Trill on his rollout and is enjoying the creative process. Fans can also expect a Yachty collaboration this summer with one of today’s hottest rising rappers. Find out what else Yachty had to say in our full interview below.
The Knockturnal: Can you tell us about the Charmin Crap battle and how you got involved?
Lil Yachty: On my last project I actually had a song called Charmin, and you know, it honestly made sense, you know to partner up and do something fun. So, yeah when he came to me with this idea I was just 100% down.
The Knockturnal: In your opinion do you think you’re going to win the crap battle? Lil Yachty: You know as much as I’d like to say yes, you never truly know.
The Knockturnal: I understand that the crap battle had you freestyle, do you prefer freestyling or writing out your music?
Lil Yachty: Definitely prefer writing.
The Knockturnal: Can you tell us a little bit about what you’re currently working on music wise? What do you have coming up?
Lil Yachty: Currently nothing. I’m kind of just chillin.
The Knockturnal: Do you have anything special planned for the summer? Are you doing any tours or festivals?
Lil Yachty: Definitely doing a few festivals. I plan on possibly going back on tour next year.
The Knockturnal: Can you name some of the festivals that you’re going to be performing at this summer?
Lil Yachty: Rolling Loud off the top of my head but there’s a few.
The Knockturnal: Are you excited for Rolling Loud?
Lil Yachty: I’m excited to just go outside to be honest.
The Knockturnal: Can you talk about some of your recent business ventures as well? How did you get involved in the Lox Club?
Lil Yachty: My manager is extremely awesome. My manager knows the owners.
The Knockturnal: Can you tell us a little bit about what you’re working on fashion-wise? I saw you recently promoting your recent Crete drop, can you tell us a little bit more about that?
Lil Yachty: Yeah, that’s my nail paint that I’m working on, it’s for all genders. We about to release some new colors really soon.
The Knockturnal: Who are you currently listening to right now?
Lil Yachty: I just signed somebody new, a new artist named DC2Trill, I’ve been listening to him. I’m trying to help him with how he does his rollout. Then I’ve been listening to PinkPantheress, this new artist, she’s really dope and then just a bunch of miscellaneous old shit, you know Isly Brothers, M83. I love Bktherula, she’s one of my favorites right now. And then I’ve been trying to do my homework on MF Doom, like getting back and really tapping in, of course I already know who he is but reconnecting his work.
The Knockturnal: Can you tell me a little bit about what it’s like for you to play the role behind the scenes when it comes to music? What is it like having artists under you and working on their rollouts?
Lil Yachty: It’s fairly new for me but it’s fun. I love that they trust my opinion and they trust me to do the right thing.
The Knockturnal: Do you prefer being the artist getting to put out content yourself or do you like overseeing other people’s work? Or do you like doing both?
Lil Yachty: Both to be honest.
The Knockturnal: I know you mentioned Bktherula a little bit, is there anyone that’s on the come up right now that you would see yourself collaborating with or would like to get a feature with?
Lil Yachty: I got something with SoFaygo on the way. I like that kid.
