Atlanta rapper BRS Kash is best known for his 2020 viral hit “Throat Baby” which landed him on the Billboard Hot 100.

The success of “Throat Baby” also led to him signing with LVRN and Interscope, going gold, and receiving a YouTube Plaque. Today Kash joins us to discuss his newest release, debut project, Kash Only, which dropped earlier today. Not only do we see a different side of Kash, but we also get to enjoy some fire collaborations with Mulatto, Dababy, City Girls, and many more.

Kash also discusses his musical journey with us and how he’s been taking music seriously for the past 10 years, waiting patiently for his turn. Rapping’s always been in Kash’s blood, even before he was born his mother was paving the way for him as a member of an all-girl rap group called Leather & Lace. Kash began experimenting with instruments at an early age, but it wasn’t until 10 years old that he began rapping. From then on the adrenaline rush of talent shows motivated Kash to keep going and growing as an artist. Fast forward 10 years later and Kash is celebrating the release of his debut project Kash Only via LVRN / Interscope Records. Check out the full interview below:

The Knockturnal: Do you remember the first time you played around with music? How old were you when you first started experimenting with music?

BRS Kash: I was probably like 10, honestly my dad got me a run set when I was 6, but as far as rapping, I was about 10, 11 and I used to go next door to my neighbor’s house because they played in the church so they had a lot of instruments, he used to get on the piano and we would just freestyle about random stuff, but I personally started taking it seriously when I was in the 8th grade during my first talent show with my group.  The adrenaline rush I got from the crowd made me want to keep going. When I started taking it serious serious I was about 14, music is the way for me to open up and vent.

The Knockturnal: How has your life changed since the release of Throat Baby and its success?

BRS Kash: My life has changed tremendously. The fact that I have a voice that’s heard -when you can touch people across the world that’s such a good feeling because that’s something that I always dreamed of. Before I had to save up money to go to the studio, now I record whenever I want to, it’s an amazing feeling to travel and meet new people almost every day.

The Knockturnal: What have been the biggest changes in your life over the past 2-3 years?

BRS Kash: I signed with Interscope and LVRN, I went gold, I got a YouTube plaque on the way, I charted on the Billboard 100, it’s a lot.

The Knockturnal: How does it feel teaming up with City Girls and Dababy for the “Throat Baby” remix and video?

BRS Kash: It was crazy.  The energy from both sides was amazing. I enjoyed creating the remix with them, both sides made a perfect fit for the song, the chemistry me and Dababy had was dope.

The Knockturnal: Can you talk about your new song with Mulatto?

BRS Kash: It’s called “Kash App,” it’s a fun record. It’s gonna have everybody dancing. Mulatto a real good person, she one of my close friends outside the music so it’s just like- for us to collab and we both up-and-coming is great.

The Knockturnal: Tell us about your debut EP Kash Only, working on the project?

BRS Kash: It’s a fun project, I had a lot of fun making it and I hope people have fun listening to it. It’s long overdue, I feel like people have only seen the “Throat Baby” side of me and this project is gonna show them who BRS Kash is as an artist. I want people to understand my artistry.

The Knockturnal: What’s been the most important thing you’ve learned so far?

BRS Kash: I learned never giving up can take you far. I feel like the wait was worth it. Patience is a virtue. I wouldn’t change nothing in the world.
