Comedian, author, and co-host of the award-winning nationally syndicated talk show, The Real, Loni Love has drawn us in again with her humorous yet deeply personal book, I Tried to Change So You Don’t Have To: True Life Lessons.

The inspirational memoir takes us on Love’s vivid journey from life in the Brewster-Douglass Projects on the East side of Detroit to homelessness to stand-up comedian, movie star, and Emmy winning talk show host. “I just wanted people to know that you can write a comedy book and still have inspiration behind it,” states Love.

The tales of her at times embarrassing mistakes, heartbreaking challenges and monumental breakthroughs interwoven with Love’s classic comedic relief teaches readers how she took control of her destiny. “In between, there are a lot of hilarious stories but there are also stories about struggles, stories about how I avoided being a crack addict, stories about how I learned to accept myself and I’m still in a situation where even though you make think, oh this isn’t possible, it can happen for you,” Love explains.

This is the comedic author’s second book while Love’s previous book, Love or Leave Him but Don’t Pick Up the Tab provided insight into the dating world for women. And just like in the first book, Love shares candid and unapologetic stories from her life including her at times toxic relationship with her mother, surviving the crack epidemic, obstacles that come with fame and success as well as her love life as an interracial couple. “I just hope that sisters understand in my story that it is not about picking one race over the other, that was not the case at all,” Love explains.

To hear more about Love’s journey to self-acceptance and success, check out our exclusive interview below. I Tried to Change So You Don’t Have To: True Life Lessons will be available for purchase on June 23.
