At the peak of New York Fashion Week 2020, BMW presented “The Talks” panels titled, “The New Faces Of Fashion.” The morning of Thursday, February 6th, Nikki Ogunnaike, GQ fashion director, moderated a panel with Christopher John Rodgers, a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner, who has dressed not only the former First Lady Michelle Obama but celebrities such as Tracee Ellis Ross and Cardi B. Rodgers has also shown critically acclaimed collections at New York Fashion Week and is presenting his third collection this year.
Nikki Ogunnaike sat down with Rodgers and an intimate crowd as part of BMW’s “The Talks — New Faces of Fashion” segment. The focus was how the brilliant young designer built himself a successful career within the competitive fashion world. Rodgers discussed in depth his untraditional journey through fashion to find the creative space that held his passion. He described reaching the final destination as “manifesting through hard work, a bit of networking, and not being afraid of the word ‘no.’”
Christopher John Rodgers’ 2020 New York Fashion Week show will be his first since winning the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. While his previous show featured runway models accented with bright pops of color, an ode to monochromatic moments, this season’s show is billowing with smoky sex appeal and a trim edge.
BMW’s “The Talks” are a huge asset to NYFW. Hearing from others who have conquered the field while staying true to themselves nurtures and inspires the next generation of budding artists.
