The majority of the cast, aka The Looser’s Club and their adult counterparts, as well as the film’s director Andrés Muschietti, hit up CinemaCon to chat about It: Chapter Two. Muschietti shared exclusive footage from the film but shared some of the challenges he faced. Muschietti explained the biggest challenge creating a sequel to the film IT, was finding the right cast, especially the adult counter parts to the kids in the first film. “It was a journey…[but] I’m proud to say I got all [the cast and actors] I wanted,” he said. He also added, “It was incredibly important to get the same look and energy, DNA and personality” of the younger cast in their adult versions.
Muschietti tapped Jessica Chastain to play the adult Beverly Marsh, Bill Hader to play the adult Richie Tozier and James McAvoy to play the adult Bill Denbrough. Sophia Lillis who plays the young Beverly said it was a dream come true to have Jessica Chastain play the adult version of her character. She added that she saw no one else stepping into those shoes. Likewise, the young Richie, Finn Wolfhard, inadvertently joked that they needed to find someone who could laugh at his own jokes like Richie can. Bill Hader was quick to respond that he must have been the perfect fit. Hader followed it up by saying, “thank you for getting me this job bro.”
It: Chapter Two with Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise hits movie theaters in the USA on September 6th 2019.
