Honestly, you could just go there for the caramel crepe and leave happy
One of the many gems located in the East Village is a quaint Argentinean eatery called Buenos Aires. This restaurant is known for its flavorful and authentic representation of classic Argentinean food and after 13 years of business, chef and owner Ismael Alba has launched a new brunch menu that captures those classic foods.
The brunch menu itself is extensive and every items sounds so delicious. For drinks, we tried the sangria. This drink is strong. So strong. You can really taste the fruit in the sangria and the drink itself goes down smooth. Which is dangerous because again, this drink is strong. This brunch menu offers two cocktails in the package and two sangrias is more than enough.
For the actual brunch menu, we sampled the spinach and beef empanadas. The empanada dough was nice and flaky. Our favorite was the beef empanadas. The beef was very moist and seasoned perfectly. We paired the empanadas with the homemade chimichurri that is made by Buenos Aires and it added the perfect amount of acidity to the empanadas. This dish is also paired with a nice arugula, beet, and burrata salad. The salad pairs well with the empanadas and could serve best as a palette cleanser to the intense savoriness that goes with the empanadas.
We also sampled the skirt steak and that was obviously delicious. The meat was tender and seasoned well. Pairing it with this chimichurri is definitely the way to go too.
For dessert we got a chance to try the Panqueque de dulce de leche con helado de vanilla. This translates to a caramel crepe with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The dulce de leche was beyond amazing. It wasn’t overtly sweet and had that creaminess that went so well with the crepe. The vanilla ice cream with it leads to an explosion of delicious flavor that you can’t stop eating.
Brunch is $35 per person includes two courses (main course + dessert), two brunch cocktails (Sangria, Mimosa, Bloody Mary or Cerveza) and coffee, tea or Argentine Mate Cocida. Price is $25 per person without alcohol. Available Saturday & Sunday Noon-4pm. Plato Principas options (main courses) include a choice of Entrana Salteada con Huevos (Sautéed Skirt Steak with organic eggs), House made Chorizo Criollo, and Milanesa de Ternera Prime (Breaded Prime Veal) just to name a few.
