Festival season has officially kicked off and will rapidly kick into full gear as we get closer to summer.
New York City’s own Governors Ball music festival is quickly approaching and this year’s lineup is maybe the festival’s best. From May 31st to June 2nd, hundreds of fans will gather on Randall’s Island to see artists like Tyler, The Creator, SZA, Florence and The Machine and Lil Wayne perform on stage. Just as important as the extensive lineup is the festival’s list of good eats that will be available at the festival this year.
“Our team hand selects each and every vendor and are incredibly proud to present the full lineup—and particularly our 2019 new releases and mashup collaborations, a first for the festival. We are so thrilled that some of the best food teams in NYC are partnering to bring something new and exciting to our fans. This is hands down the most exciting and delicious food program Gov Ball has ever had” said Governors Ball Festival Director, Jennifer Stiles.
We know how easy it is to work up an appetite from running around in the hot sun all day while singing your hearts out to your favorite artist’s song. So, we’ve put together a complete guide to all of the amazing food and drink options that will be available at Governors Ball 2019.
The Knockturnal was able to preview some new additions to the festival’s food lineup. The festival is featuring some of the tastiest food collaborations by vendors from all over NYC right to Randall’s Island for one weekend. With vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free snacks set to be sold, there is something for everyone!
Featured collaborations include:
The Melt Shop and King David’s Tacos– Popular sandwich franchise The Melt Shop is joining forces with the king of (breakfast) tacos to bring you their Queso & Tots. Crunchy tator tots fried to perfection and drenched with King David’s special spicy queso sauce.
Big Mozz and Grillo’s Pickles– Big Mozz is known for serving their giant mozzarella sticks overflowing with melted mozzeralla cheese on the inside and covered in garlic, Romano cheese and parsley on the outside. Though, this time they’re collaborating with all-natural pickle brand Grillo’s Pickles to create the ultimate fried pickle experience.
RISE Brewing Co. and Davey’s Ice Cream– RISE Brewing Co. is a NY-based organic coffee brewing company and are combining their gluten-free, nitro-infused brew with just a few sweet scoops of Davey’s Ice Cream to create the perfect coffee flavored frozen desert. If you’re a fan of tart and sweet flavors, this mixture serves as a delicious treat to cool down with at the end of a long day at Governors Ball.
Other vendors include:
Mekelburgs– The Brooklyn eatery will premiere their new Babka Poppers at Governors Ball. If you love Cinnabon’s then you’ll definitely love these tiny treats. Named after the jewish dessert, Mekelburgs Babka Poppers are cinnamon babka nuggets soaked in sweet cream and covered in crispy cornflakes and cinnamon sugar with a side of vanilla bean cream cheese spread.
Arancino Bros. NYC– When thinking of Italian food, vegan dishes are probably the last to come to mind. This Italian restaurant is changing the game by recreating their exclusive Sicilian rice ball recipe to specifically cater to all the vegans out there. Their “Taco Balls” are your favorite tacos wrapped up into tiny balls. “Taco Balls” include vegan beef crumble, sour cream, salsa, and cheddar cheese mixed together and enclosed in a crunchy cornmeal crust.
But that’s not all. In addition to these yummy options are famous NYC lobster shop Luke’s Lobster, Walter’s Hot Dogs, Mighty Quinn’s BBQ, New York style pizza from San Matteo, various cookie dough flavors from DŌ and more.
To quench your thirst, Governors Ball curated specialty cocktails sponsored by some of your favorites including Bacardi, Tito’s Vodka and more. Their signature “Gov Ball Punch” is a concoction of Bacardi lime flavored rum, watermelon liqueur, lime juice, and club soda. The “Pablo Honey” is a mixture of Tito’s Handmade Vodka, lemonade, tea, honey, ginger beer and rosemary. Aperol Spritz, Jameson and Don Julio are amongst the many other cocktails to choose from.
In addition to cocktails, Governors Ball is introducing their new beer infused cocktails entitled “Beertails”. Raspberry Basil Beermosa, a play on the tradition mimosa, includes Blue Point Shore Thing beer. Others include the “Pomegranate Passion Tea” with Kona Big Wave beer, the “Toasted Lavender Orange” with Toasted Lager and the “Peach Green Buds” with Bud Light.
If you’re under 21 or if alcohol just isn’t your thing, there will also be non-alcoholic beverages available as well as free water stations dispersed throughout the park. To see the complete list of food and drink vendors for Governors Ball 2019, click here.
