Located in Hell’s Kitchen at 788 9th Ave, New York, NY, 10019; Badshah is the best place in NYC to experience the taste of Indian street food-inspired dishes. Head Chef and Owner, Abishek Sharma recently updated Badshah’s menu as a way to share his culture. The all-new Badshah menu is inspired by food street carts and vendors that are vital to Indian cuisine.
I recently had the opportunity to try our Badshahs’ latest menu and loved every moment of my experience. I was quite excited to try out their menu updates which included Kerala Fried Chicken, Kale & Moong Chaat, a Crispy Kale, Chana Masala, and Truffle Ribs.
I started out by trying their “Sassy Lassi” Cocktail. This drink had all the creamy and sweet flavors of a traditional Mango Lassi but with rum added to give it the sass. I can definitely see myself indulging in this beverage in the upcoming warmer months.
First up on the menu was the Kale & Moong Chaat. The crispy kale and sprouted lentils mixed with tamarind-mint chutney are a traditional snack in India. This dish was served with a side of cumin yogurt to dip and had the perfect amount of spice. While the Kale & Moong Chaat can be served in different ways in India, I quite enjoyed this rendition of the traditional snack.
Next up, I was served Kerala Fried Chicken. I was in love with this dish and can’t wait to head back to have it again. The Kerala Fried Chicken was seasoned with an Indian dry rub and served with a spicy masala aioli. This is the perfect dish for anyone who wants to be introduced to India’s traditional spices and flavors. The chicken was fried to perfection, was very tender, boneless, and had the perfect amount of flavor.
For the main entree, I indulged in both the Chana Masala and the Truffle Ribs. The Chana Masala is a traditional Northern Indian dish consisting of fire-roasted tomato curry and served with chickpeas and basmati rice. The Chana Masala is the perfect dish for vegetarians/vegans.
