Rapper Towkio has come through with visuals for “Clean Up”, a track off WAV. Theory featuring Chance The Rapper.
Towkio’s low-key trip-hop style is unbelievably infectious. The way he lets his voice dissolve into the production over the course of a verse or a hook signals what is practically a shift in genres. With an incredible ear for beats and melody, Towkio crafts his tracks in a way where the listener can zone out and vibe to his flow, how it’s embossed in the instrumental, or lean in and focus on his verses, as his lyrics are always interesting.
On “Clean Up”, Towkio and Chance trade their deconstructed and fluid ad-libs the way spitters trade bars over a Preemo beat. It’s a wholly enjoyable rap track that devolves into a smooth jazzy dance song. The visuals really help hit that aesthetic with the pastel pink wall that Towkio, Chance, and his friends use as a backdrop for their goofy and carefree dancing.
Part of me does wish Towkio rapped a little longer on this track, but it’s not that big of an issue as the track is sequenced really well and it runs through quickly for an enjoyable listen. Towkio most definitely deserves more exposure and hopefully Chance helps him acquire it.
