This Week’s ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ is The Worst of The Season

I will have to be blunt about this week’s Fear The Walking Dead. It is the absolute worst episode of the current season.

I could not believe the sheer amount of stupidity that was displayed on my screen for the hour that I watched. Awful dialogue, pacing, storytelling, and twists that made my head spin without giving me time to digest what was going on. Let’s start with Wes. He was in Strand’s tower as a ranger for him for two episodes and all of the sudden, he turned against him and Strand’s rangers are now listening to him? Give me a break! This plot could have been for Howard. It would be more believable since he was with Strand from the end of the last season. But that would have to force the writers and show runners to actually write a compelling story.

Another problem I have with this current season of Fear The Walking Dead is all of the buildup. Why should anyone care about taking over Strand’s tower? The entire area is filled with radiation so that should be a sign for everyone to go somewhere else. Fourteen episodes to build this supposed war between Strand and Alicia and yet, they are the on and off again buddy-cop duo this week. This makes no sense and it completely eliminated everything that was being built up. Especially since Strand has been portrayed as a cartoon villain that I could not take seriously at all.

I will say one positive about this week’s Fear The Walking Dead. The season three flashbacks involving Daniel. That is a fantastic way of showing the viewers the last time the show was universally great. I find it funny that Charlie woke up when speaking to Daniel but yet, she was sleeping the whole time when gunfire was heard in the entire tower. Daniel then gets shot in the chest by Wes and he somehow survives. WHAT? Nick got shot in the chest and died a few seasons ago. But wait, there’s more nonsense coming up.

Everyone is shooting guns at each other (sometimes in a close proximity) and they are all missing their target. What kind of plot armor is this?

I was more annoyed with Daniel, Alicia, Strand, and Wes pointing guns at each other multiple times to the point where I am screaming “Enough of this bullshit, start shooting already” at the screen. Why would anyone try to talk it out if someone is threatening your life? Particularly when they’ve already admitted to wanting to kill you! Alicia and Strand were a great target for Wes and the gang, why didn’t they just go for it? Daniel saved the day and Alicia could have shot Wes. Why didn’t she? They aim their guns at each other constantly, shoot, then talk about it for a while, switch sides, and then get back at each other. Like what the actual fuck?! Who came up with this formula of awful storytelling?

Alicia and Strand’s scene at the near end of the episode was a cringefest. Everything they said was just out of character for them. It did not help that Alicia kicked down Strand and it looked comically bad. And we follow that up with Alicia passing out while Strand’s tower begins to burn down. Seconds later, all the suspense was killed because they showed Alicia alive on the preview of the next episode.

There was no war that happened. It was just all talk. The rules of radiation went out the window multiple times and I lost count of how many times I said it. All of the actors are talented and should not be wasted like this. This is one episode of Fear The Walking Dead where the script should have been thrown in the trash just like that high school episode of World Beyond! I do not give star ratings. But if I would, this week’s Fear The Walking Dead would get a negative four stars!
