Raja may be a new artist but he knows who he is. The “Island Gal” singer sat down with The Knockturnal and spoke to us exclusively about his new single with singer Tory Lanez battling an addiction and making music for the ladies.
The New York native is making a name for himself with the second single from his album The Rebirth. Raja said he used music as a way to cope with addiction.
“Music saved my life,” said Raja. “After the loss of my father, I became addicted to opioids. “It’s a big epidemic right now and it’s very hard to get off opioids, it was the hardest thing I had to deal with in my life.” “But when I wanted to use I would play a beat and write music, so I used music as the drug to help me overcome addiction.”
His latest single “Island Gal” is garnering a lot of attention. The song had over 25 thousand listens on Soundcloud and he shows no signs of slowing down. “This is a new song, it’s an Indian kid in a mainstream world mixing modern beats and modern records with a little bit of Bollywood and I’m singing a lot about the ladies.”
