Fenty By Puma Collection Debuts at New York Fashion Week

by Kadeem Lundy February 14, 2016
written by Kadeem Lundy

On Friday (February 12th), Grammy Award winning superstar Rihanna and Puma debuted their Fenty By Rihanna first season collection at New York Fashion Week. The collection consists of footwear, apparel and accessories for both women and men.

Rihanna drew inspiration for the collection from current Japanese street culture and tradition for the first full season. The superstar became Puma’s Ambassador and Creative Director in December 2014.

Before hitting the runway Rihanna told the Associated Press backstage, “I think design is a part of being creative. I enjoy creating and expressing the crazy things going on in my mind through something that people can see and that is tangible. That is the best part, being able to express yourself.”

“Fashion to me was just one of those things that came naturally,” Rihanna added. “I enjoy discovering it — all the different styles, finishes, fabrics, silhouettes. It’s not easy, but it doesn’t feel like work.”

Aside from Rihanna, those in attendance included Foxy Brown, Naomi Campbell, Edward Enniful, Sofia Richie, Chris Rock, Travis $cott, Jaelen Strong, SZA, Young Thug, Pete Wentz, Anna Wintour, as well as models Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, and Stella Maxwell.

The Fenty By Puma collection will be available in retail stores in September 2016.

Backstage Beauty Report: Rachel Antonoff Fall 2016 Presentation

by Ellie Salicetti February 14, 2016
written by Ellie Salicetti

Never one to stick to the status quo, Rachel Antonoff transported us back to the Mad Men age Broadway style in her Fall 2016 presentation on Thursday. In lieu of the classic runway and techno beat, guests were treated to a staged production of a “A Secretary is Not a Toy” from  How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

For the collection, Antonoff was inspired by secretaries and working women throughout time.  She referenced characters from iconic films such as The Apartment, Baby Boom, and Working Girl. Featuring blush tones, lipstick swatch prints and touches of denim, the collection radiates sophisticated femininity that can easily transition to everyday life, but what really caught our attention was the modern take on 1960’s beauty looks on the dancers.

The Knockturnal went backstage to get the inside scoop on nails and hair complete with the full step by step break down on how to get the look.

NAILS

Manicurist MISS POP for KISS Products, Inc. created not one but a total of 5 playful nail art looks designed exclusively for the presentation.

“They are so playful and fun. These are direct translation. I’m not doing minimalist abstractions, I’m doing literal prints. Eyes have been really big on nails, and I think the new eye is lips. I love putting lips on tips. It just feels natural,” says Miss Pop.

Check out the step by step guide on how to re-create the looks below!

HAIR

Inspiration: “The collection was inspired by a 1960’s secretary with a modern twist. I created bows in the hair with a slight flip that gave it this cool, undone vibe. A pencil is added to the bun to match the playfulness of the clothes. Not every woman looks good with one hairstyle, so I enjoyed working with Rachel in creating three distinct, yet cohesive looks.”

Mixology Clothing Company Celebrates #HowIMix At W Hotel Union Square

by Andrea Christensen February 14, 2016
written by Andrea Christensen

On Thursday Feb. 11, Mixology Clothing Company partnered with W Hotel Union Square to throw a fashion week party to celebrate their new social media campaign #howimix. The event was hosted in the Great Room, where there was a live DJ event, open bar, and photobooth provided by Vodka Marionette. Guests included Jordyn Jones, DJ Xenia Ghali, and Entertainment Tonight correspondent Carly Steel.
The idea behind Mixology’s #howimix campaign is to inspire the fashionable girl who doesn’t want to break the bank with an all designer wardrobe by buying one or two statement pieces they can wear forever and mix high and low fashion. Instagram users can hashtag their photos and share inspiration with each other, building a community of Mixology shoppers.

The W New York – Union Square is located in the 1911 beaux arts Guardian Life building. Central to glamorous shopping, electric music venues and a dynamic art culture, it is a contemporary spot for you to see and be seen.

Restaurant Review: Amigos

by Margaret Wu February 13, 2016
written by Margaret Wu

One thing I will never advocate for is the healthy eating trends that are going viral today. I don’t understand juice cleanses, no-carb diets, or the insane hype for super foods like acai berries and goji berries. That being said, Mexican food is one of my guilty pleasures because they definitely don’t hold back on their cheeses, carbs and deliciousness.
