Malan Breton was lit with a range of emotions during the SS 2025 collection this September. Dramatic themes of betrayal, revenge, and hope came to the packed show during New York Fashion Week.

Malan Breton always has a lot of balls in the air. For his Men’s Fashion Week presentation, he broke the line into two parts, his regular Spring/Summer collection, and a separate capsule collection called “The Butterfly Effect.” Plus, he had model Peter Ward on hand wearing briefs from his recently launched Malan Breton underwear line, and although this was Men’s Week he also slipped in an absolutely stunning gold patterned women’s look. Malan’s presentations and runway shows always pack in a lot of seemingly disparate elements, but he always makes them all work, and his men’s wear, regardless if it is elaborate or a more simple concept, is always stunning.
Among his Spring/Summer line, his usual Taiwanese influences were in full effect, and as always there were luxurious silks and exclusively created watercolor prints. The details were striking: a blue pants/shirt combo has bright orange trim and a golden wing pattern had a distinct 1970’s vibe, and was finished with a cummerbund style belt. Over on “The Butterfly Effect” side, the same fabric pattern carried through most of the pieces, from pants to jackets. The detailing here was a little more cheeky than usual for Malan; one jacket was emblazoned with a huge “M,” some models had oversize gold rings hanging from their necks, and several carried Malan Breton skateboards(!). His formal menswear is always impeccable, but it’s nice to see him having fun too.
