Laugh Out Loud with Mae Martin
The Knockturnal had the opportunity to attend Netflix’s Laugh Out Loud event hosted by Mae Martin at the Netflix Tudum Theater in Los Angeles. Mae Martin is a writer, actor, and comedian best-known for creating and starring in Netflix’s show “FEEL GOOD”. Laugh Out Loud celebrated Martin’s first hour-long stand-up comedy special “SAP” which premiered on Netflix on March 28th. Martin wanted the set to encapsulate the area in which it was filmed, Vancouver, Canada, which is why the set is decorated with fairy lights and mystical trees. Attendees had the pleasure of viewing a trailer of Martin’s special with jokes ranging from what it’s like to be a kid at summer camp, encountering a moose in the woods, and an exploration of gender. The event consisted of comedy sets by LGBTQIA+ comedians, including Sabrina Jalees, Megan Stalter, Joel Kim Booster, and Nori Reed. Each comedian had a unique style that contributed to the energy in the room. Stalter even did a hilarious reading of a few lines from her book at the end of her set.
