Steps away from the Herald Square subway station, Sweet Graffiti is serving up a rainbow of desserts from cuisines across the globe. Adjacent to the Martinique New York on Broadway, Pastry Chef Romina Peixoto’s shop has something for everyone.
Candy
A few years back, Midtown Manhattan was greeted with a sparkly new addition, a museum entirely dedicated to candy! The popup turned out to be an ideal location for both kids and adults alike, with a massive marshmallow pit, confetti everywhere, and even an indoor zip line, it was the perfect mix of insta-worthy and nostalgic fun. After closing its doors in 2018, we are so happy to report that the action packed experience is back and better than ever, now open as of April 29th! But that’s not all, the museum has been upgraded with two brand new rooms. So not only will Candytopia fans feel right at home and remember their favorite attractions, but now they can look forward to even more new immersive experiences. Candytopia is 24,000 sq ft of pure confectionery bliss with over 17 different interactive environments, including signature favorites like the marshmallow pit and confetti room, a Candy Art Gallery featuring famous New Yorkers, and new features like the infinity mirror room, ring swing garden, sugar high theater and an indoor zipline! Candytopia is a wonka-esque real life candyland on steroids, beloved by celebs like Drew Barrymore, Gwyneth Paltrow, Hilary Duff & many more.
So what can you expect from the giant candy wonderland? We were so excited to find out! On Thursday, we headed downtown to attend the exiting preview day for the museum, I didn’t have to look too far to see the colorful building with a bright pink table full of rainbow lollipops at the front. The experience begins with an elevator, which brings you up to a beautiful rainbow hallway, signs that say phrases like follow the sweetness letting you know where to go. The first room we entered housed a magic show, complete with a massive floating disk that popped down from the ceiling to serve guests with chocolate! A magic door opened which lead to a passageway full of neon streamers and blacklights, that passed us through to a wonderland of nature, made out of jellybeans! The jellybean theme continued to the next room, an art gallery full of portraits of everyone’s favorite pop culture icons, Cardi B, Snoop Dogg, and even Willy Wonka himself, created entirely out of candy! Not a single room left us empty handed, as each one contained a treasure chest full of candy that related to the themes of the room. We left with lollipops, gummies, candy bracelets and necklaces, and so much more!
Some of my favorite rooms included things like gummy bear lights and a hall of mirrors containing buttons to change their colors, a giant pink candy throne, lollipop swings, a safari, rotating confetti sea-saws, and even an entire under the sea experience! It’s rare to find a new york city experience that’s this fun for both kids and adults alike, and Candytopia is truly fun for the whole family. For Willy Wonka and Charlie and the chocolate factory fans, you can find many subtle nods to the original factory throughout the experience, which I thought was such a cute touch.
We can’t possibly recommend taking a trip to Candytopia more! Hear all about it and get tickets here!
Howard Johnson by Wyndham Adds Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice with “Sweet Escape”
The #HoJoSweetEscape experience takes over Lower Manhattan with an Insta-worthy installment of a to-scale Howard Johnson by Wyndham’s room redesign made entirely of candy.
In honor of level 5,000, King held a press trip in their home office in Stockholm, Sweden on June 25, 2019.
When he isn’t acting as Chief Development Officer at the King office or trying to beat level 1,307 of Candy Crush, Tjodolf Sommestad finds himself exercising and trying to get into golf. “I’m getting old,” he said, “I thought now might be the time as the kids are getting older.” The Candy Crush veteran first started working for King back in 2011. As he moved up the company ladder, Sommestad was able to see the development of the game from many angles which is why The Knockturnal had to sit with the Chief himself to get a view of the 5,000th level celebration from where he’s standing.
With Valentine’s Day right around, King has launched a whole new world in the Candy Crush Friends Saga called “Valentine’s Valley.”
Kings Games launched their new game, Candy Crush Friends, on October 12th in Battery Park with a proper candy land party the rain just couldn’t stop.
What if I told you that there’s a place in Manhattan where you can pose with Katy Perry, jump in a huge pool filled with marshmallows and pretend to be sucked in a giant candy-colored hole, all while constantly being fed candy?
