What target audience were you thinking of when making this upcoming EP? The lovers? The heartbroken? Or is it for everybody?
GEMINI: There wasn’t a specific target audience when I made [Love Sick]. This album feels like a special event for me. I wanted to try a genre many people are now listening to, so I started making Afrobeat songs. I want listeners to vibe with [Love Sick] rather than being too focused on lyrics and emotions. I suggest listening in specific settings, like in hot weather or by the sea, perhaps while driving; it would suit perfectly, and you will notice your body naturally reacting to my music.
What has been the most rewarding part of making your upcoming EP?
GEMINI: Working with our new label artists, DAWN and BLASÉ, was so much fun. We share the same studio, so we hang out almost every day. We made a lot of music together, and Attention became the first song released. Also, our label’s producer, Kwaca, was featured on Run It Back. Kwaca is the producer who produced all the songs from my second EP [Still Blue], and this time, he produced & is featured in my album. I loved working with my friends.
What is something we can see GEMINI doing in the next upcoming months? Any shows that fans can be expecting?
GEMINI: This will be a big surprise for my fans. I’m going to continue my [Still Blue] tour in other continents. For this tour, my fans will be able to experience both [Still Blue] and [Love Sick], so it will be very special. Stay tuned!
You have been pumping out amazing music for almost 3 years now, what keeps you motivated?
GEMINI: My fans. They are my biggest inspiration and they motivate me to make music.
You have such a unique and distinct sound, what artists do you feel inspired by?
GEMINI: One of my favorite artists is Frank Ocean. I always get inspired whenever I listen to his music. And these days, I listen to Dominic Fike and d4vd a lot.
Speaking of artists that have inspired you, what is your dream collaboration?
GEMINI: An artist that I want to collaborate with is keshi. I love how his music gives me comfort, and I also want to share that type of warm feeling with people. I even made a song that I want to collaborate with keshi. And a producer I want to collaborate with is D’Mile. Whenever I see credits for a song I like, he’s there.
Just by checking your instagram, we can tell your sense of style is amazing! What is a fashion trend / piece of clothing you’ve been loving recently?
GEMINI: I love fashion, but the trend keeps changing really fast. So, I try to find my own style. I’m into vintage clothes these days.
What goal does GEMINI want to accomplish within the next year?
GEMINI: I’m planning to put out as many albums as possible. And one of them might be my first studio album.
Out of all your music, what song has meant the most to you!
GEMINI: All of my songs are special to me, but Going meant the most to me. It is my debut single, and I feel like this song paved the way and led to ‘GEMINI’ that you are seeing now.
