Surf City was well worth the twenty odd minutes of rocking across the Hudson River.
Most patrons however, have the option of taking the much more conventional PATH train to visit the restaurant.
I enjoyed my night at Surf City, and while the food was great, it wasn’t the cornerstone of my experience. Sitting down with friends and family at a beachside table, kicking back with frozen margaritas, and listening to a solid DJ will definitely be your highlights. The atmosphere provided by the endearing staff members and warm welcome of the head chef, were more than enough to ease us into a relaxing dinner.
All of this is not to say the food isn’t worth mentioning, in fact the lobster rolls were downright addictive, and the paella was definitely memorable. The menu offers enough variety for just about every seafood lover’s tastebuds, and the drinks will blissfully fuel your beach night.
The masterfully crafted menu will pair beautifully with a wide selection of colorful tropical frozen drinks. Choices will include the Mango Tango, a layered Mango and Strawberry Daiquiri, the Lava Flow, a Pina Colada with flowing strawberry puree and rum, the Island Fusion, a banana, strawberry, light rum and coconut rum concoction and the Miami Vice, a layered Pina Colada and Strawberry Daiquiri. Apart from the frozen drinks and cocktails, Surf City will have over rotating 25 craft beers on tap, including Harpoon Raspberry Hefeweisen, Captain Lawrence Sunblock, Landshark and Ithaca Apricot Ale.
The place itself is rather sprawling, offering a full bar, inside dining area, outside dining area, and a couple of fire pits to keep to your dinner group interested for a good amount of time. Surf City is more hangout than it is dedicated restaurant, and that’s more than okay because few spots exist like it outside of City Island (which is a sizable trek for most denizens of New York City). Surf City has got it’s market cornered as a spot to escape to for a single night that’ll feel like you took a whole weekend off.
