Jonathan Simkhai showcased his Fall/Winter 2018 collection on Saturday afternoon at Spring Studios. A collection addressing women’s empowerment while captivating the audience with the perfect contrast between delicate notions and commanding silhouettes.

Simkhai’s collection exuded a powerful attitude juxtaposed by an ethereal sensibility, this was achieved with the combination of structured blazers,
modern gigot-sleeves, and baroque lace dresses. Simkhai addressed feminism this season through deriving inspiration from suffragettes and a quote by Maxine Waters, “We should have hope because we earned it. We worked for it! It’s ours.” Simkhai has often referenced feminism within his collections, previously stating that he wanted to showcase “women as a powerful force to be reckoned with.”
A certain essence of poignancy was revealed through the innovative hairstyles by celebrated hairstylist, Odile Gilbert that was created to imitate chokers. The hairstyles evoked a gritty romanticism, which encompassed Simkhai’s vision through a sleek hairstyle with a contemporary edge. TRESemmé products were at the forefront of this innovative look created by Gilbert, “I was inspired by the idea of a choker but wanted to work it into the hairstyle for an edgy twist on the look.” While drawing parallel to the collection concept this hairstyle left attendees in admiration at how beautifully Gilbert was able to translate Simkhai’s vision into the hairstyle. The use of several TRESemmé products was seamlessly combined to both smooth and create texture. Odile demonstrates how she achieves texture while adding volumizing dry shampoo. She then smoothes the top and gently ties a delicate piece of elastic around the model’s neck to create the illusion of a choker.
