You’ve heard of some nightmare dating app dates, but what if your date was actually the stuff of nightmares? In “Vampires of the Velvet Lounge” vampiresses lure men through dating apps, giving matching blood types a whole new meaning.
The Knockturnal spoke with star India Eisley about her role in the film. The movie is part action, part comedy and part social satire. So it checked all the boxes for Eisley. She’s no stranger to macabre turns, having starred in the horror movie “Look Away” and acted alongside Kate Beckinsale in the vampire slaying world of “Underworld: Awakening.”
Eisley talked about her penchant for out there, crazy roles like this one. She said, “It’s interesting to explore the sides of human nature that we don’t do on the day to day or that most people don’t feel comfortable exploring in front of other people. Psychologically, stuff like that really interests me, whether its taboo subject matters or mental illness. Things that make people uncomfortable. It’s important to explore them creatively because it creates a conversation around it.” She continued, “Ultimately it’s an outlet as far as playing wild and unhinged. There is a playful side to it.”
She also touched on the heavier themes of films, like how technology has taken its toll on the human condition. “We now just have to ride the wave of what is happening now because it’s a runaway train,” she said. “It’s really dehumanizing a lot of people, desensitizing a lot of people. It’s not an organic way of existing. I’m not a hippy or anything. It’s not a natural thing to wake up and immediately grab your phone and scroll to see what someone’s breakfast was or to answer an email.”
And then she weighed in on dating apps. “Never have, never will,” she said.
Eisley joins a star-studded cast of Mena Suvari, Stephen Dorff, Tyrese Gibson, Dichen Lachman, Rosa Salazar, Tom Berenger and more. The film was released on March 20.
