The New York Premiere of “Bad Moms” was held at the Metrograph last night and we got the exclusive with the film’s leading ladies.
Written and Directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, Bad Moms premiered last night with many of its leading cast gracing the carpet. The film stars Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Christina Applegate, Jada Pinkett Smith, Martha Stewart and Annie Mumolo in an almost all female cast about the trials and tribulations of motherhood. We caught up with Mila Kunis, Kathryn and Annie Mumolo about their favorite scenes and working with such an amazing cast and directors. Check out the interviews below and catch Bad Moms in theaters July 29th.
Tell me what it was like working with this incredible cast of women, was it a laughingstock all the time?
Mila Kunis: Yeah it’s a really brilliant group of women, they’re incredibly smart — that are all working moms and all want to be home for dinner or at least close to. I think from other movies you work really hard. All the women came incredibly prepared, worked incredibly hard because everyone wanted to go home to their kids.
Did any kids make it on set?
MK: Everyone’s kids!
Did that give everyone some energy?
MK: It’s what the movie’s about. It was amazing to spend the mornings with everyone’s kids.
Do you relate to your character in any way?
MK: Oh yeah, the one thing that I think any woman can relate to whether they’re a mother or not is the self-imposed pressure that we put on ourselves to be so-called perfect, however that is whether it’s in your job or in your personal life. In this case it just so happened to be with a working mom. I know I do that to myself on a regular basis trying to figure out a way to so-called “balance” my work and my life and so I found that to be incredibly relatable.
Can you speak about collaborating with Jon and Scott and what you admire about them as both writers and directors?
MK: I think Jon and Scott are some of the most open-minded directors I’ve ever worked with. They researched and spoke to hundreds of women while writing this love letter to their wives and if at any point, I or any one of these brilliant women had anything to say about the script or about a moment or a character’s reaction that they didn’t feel would be right, they had no egos. They said do whatever you think is right.
What were some of the fun antics you had playing bad moms?
MK: One of my bucket lists was running through a superstore and pouring cereal and eating everything and we got to do that for 15 hours and it was awesome.
Kathryn Hahn
Can you talk about the chemistry behind the scenes and working with the cast?
It’s an awesome group of ladies. The best! I hadn’t done a movie with all women and I have two little scenes with men and they’re not really talking scenes.
What was your favorite scene from the movie?
The grocery store scene sticks out because it felt incredibly cathartic. I hate grocery shopping so much it’s one of my least favorite things to do as a mom and just to kind of go tear through a grocery store was so fun.
What was it like working with the directors?
Jon and Scott, who also wrote the movie are just amazing and open, hilarious, patient dudes and we were a bunch of marbles to try to wrangle these six ladies. We met and it was like the dam opened. I know one of the writers from school. My kid goes to school with his son so I also know his wife and knowing her and seeing what he read, it’s so deeply romantic and so sweet. It’s such a love letter.

Can you speak about working with Jon and Scott and what you loved about their writing and directing?
They were very tapped in to these characters and seeing these characters come alive with their voice behind them was very exciting
