NYFW is around the corner and luxury brand ‘Rideau’ got a head start on presenting their new Autumn/Winter 2016 collection.
Luxury brand, Rideau, held an exclusive first preview of their forthcoming Autumn/Winter 2016 collection yesterday afternoon (February 2). The event took place in New York at the Soho House Club Room located in downtown, Manhattan. The brand set the mood with dimmed lighting, a chill DJ and complimentary wine. Some of the pieces from the collection were showcased on a few models as well as garment racks throughout the room. The collection mainly consisted of neutral colors, wider necklines, Lampo zipper details and sea island cotton t-shirts. The brand’s signature comprised of two rivets which were embedded on the back of each piece.
Rideau is a luxury contemporary brand that started in 2015 by designer, Dylan Granger. The brand was inspired by both Japanese and European culture, yet it implements an Americana aesthetic. On the brands website they express the importance of creating functional luxury items while still using high quality fabrics. “Rideau represents the epitome of a lifestyle brand – seamlessly combining functionality, technicality and modernism.”
I had the opportunity to speak with Nicholas Joannides, the brand manager of Rideau, about the collection.
“You make clothes and you can have a really nice sweatshirt, but what if there’s no pockets? Where do you put your hands? You have pockets that are too far off or a pocket that isn’t properly placed on a garment; it’s awkward. You want things to be able to function properly. You wouldn’t get a sweatshirt with the neck too tight because then you have a problem putting your head through it. But people make these things. These things exist. Things that are fashion forward, but they’re too fashion forward that it isn’t practical. It isn’t functional,” said Nicholas.
