I will never stop being amazed at talented rappers making lazy songs.
Chaz French is without a doubt a great emcee, if you doubt me check out “What Ya Say,” a track he premiered with The Fader. He may not be the most lyrically proficient but his energy and flow carry Chaz over most instrumentals with ease. I also need to add that I understand that this track “A Go!” is meant to be a banger. It’s not going to be a ‘spitterific’ ballad, rather it’s going to be a club anthem. However, that doesn’t mean the track is not to be well thought out.
Whenever I hear a Chaz French track I immediately think: energy. That is something that “A Go!” is void of. The song picks up in the second half but by that time, Chaz’s verse feels forced. Nothing about this track sounds natural. It feels as though he needed to make use of this D. Woo beat that he had lying around because like most songs in this lane, its production is very addictive.
I never wanted Chaz to come through with a barrage of lyrics, or even a dense verse, I just expected him to put passion into a track like this. Sadly, “A Go!” just isn’t my kind of brew. That being said, I still look forward to every Chaz track that comes out, his energy and creativity are something that can manifest themselves into a strong project.
