Get to know Oakland rapper Capolow.
Cinematic signee and Bay Area rapper, Capolow has been on a roll this summer dropping non-stop hits & visuals. Even with the limitations set by quarantine, Capolow has managed to finish nearly two tapes. Some of Capolow’s recent releases include “Drop That Bag” & “Down” which dropped today. In addition to creating numerous singles, Capolow’s used the past few months to finish up his upcoming project. The 16-tracks project is an introduction to Cap’s life and experiences.
Starting out by watching his brother rap, Cap was motivated to follow in his footsteps, even recording his first track in his brother’s studio. Cap was always passionate about music since the age of 14 Cap knew this was his path, but it wasn’t until the Bay started supporting him heavy that he took things to a more professional level. With his city behind him and cosigns from other notable Bay Area heavyweights like Kamaiyah and Blueface, Cap is only going up from here. Today Cap joins us to discuss some of his recent content, his upcoming project, and how it all began. Furthermore, he describes how connecting with Shipes has only led to progress for him.
The Knockturnal: How long have you been making music?
Capolow: 10+ years, since I was 14 for real.
The Knockturnal: Did you have any musical influences growing up?
Capolow: My big brother, when he started rapping I was watching him do his thing. He let me make my first song with his studio equipment, in the basement.
The Knockturnal: When did you know this was the career you want to follow?
Capolow: I always had a passion for making music, even if I didn’t think I was going to make it, I would still do it regardless because Iove it. When I dropped “Highway Robbery” in 2018, more people in the bay area started fucking with me more and that’s when I started taking my professional route seriously, promoting myself more.
The Knockturnal: Can you talk about the experience of signing with Cinematic?
Capolow: Cinematic’s dope, I actually just met Shipes. Ever since I linked up with Shipes and Cosmo they been showing me nothing but love. I signed with Cinematic in 2019 and ever since then I just seen growth.
The Knockturnal: What was it like to be featured on Kamaiyah’s project?
Capolow: Kamaiyah’s my dog. I’ve known her for years, she came back to the bay and said she was doing a project and wanted me on it.
The Knockturnal: How has Quarantine affected your creative process?
Capolow: It took some getting used to for sure, the first month was frustrating but after that I was like I should just work more and finished one tape and almost finished another. I’ve been in the studio since Corona.
The Knockturnal: Can we talk about your single “Drop That Bag”
Capolow: It’s just about finding someone that’s gonna drop that bag on you and for you to do the same.
The Knockturnal: Can you talk about your upcoming mixtape?
Capolow: The new project has 16 tracks and it’s just an introduction to me, and what my life is like or what it would be like if I lived next door to you.
