Starz’ Power Book III: Raising Kanan’s fifth season is currently in production. It will also be the final season of the second spinoff of the Power Franchise.
The hit drama, which premiered in 2021, has become a cornerstone of the Power franchise, offering fans a deeper look into the formative years of one of its most complex characters, Kanan Stark. The fifth season was renewed back in 2024.
As Season 4 ends on a major cliffhanger, showrunner Sascha Penn revealed to us that the cliffhanger at the end of Raising Kanan Season 4 was always part of the plan, even from the initial pitch of the series. From early on, Penn envisioned the show as a five-season arc, and the events that concluded the fourth season were deliberately designed to set the stage for the final chapter. He emphasized that the ending wasn’t a spontaneous twist but a pivotal moment that had been mapped out to naturally transition into the final season.
“We knew that the fifth season was [our final season]. So it really felt like we wanted to swing for the fences,” he said.
Why does this matter? The Power Universe, known for its tight storytelling and bold character arcs, is heading into a major period of transition. Not only is Raising Kanan coming to a close, but Power Book IV: Force, centered on Tommy Egan, is also preparing for its final season, which is expected to premiere in fall 2025. With two major spinoffs reaching their end, Starz is gearing up to launch the next spinoff of the franchise.
That comes in the form of Power Origins, the newly announced prequel series that will explore the early lives of James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Tommy Egan. Fans have long speculated about the untold story of Ghost and Tommy’s rise, and Power Origins promises to dive into their teenage years, their beginnings in the drug game, and the events that led to the original Power series.
As Raising Kanan prepares for its final season, viewers can expect a deeper reckoning with family, loyalty, and identity core themes that have shaped the franchise since its inception.
