This past Friday, September 29 Pedro Pérez opened his first art exhibit since the Artforum in 1988. Working privately for the last three decades, he has refused to exhibit his work until now.
Held in the famous Miami Design District which is known as a creative neighborhood in Miami dedicated to innovative fashion, design, art, architecture, and dining. Pérez debuted a series of daily drawings he has been developing since the mid-2000s, seen in conversation with a painting from the collection of the NSU Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale. This exhibition called; “Back the Same Day” highlights the story of an underdog artist resurfacing after decades of working in the basement.
Pérez’s storied history within the realm of art is nothing short of inspiring. As a resident of the fabled “Usonia” community designed by the legendary Frank Lloyd Wright in Pleasantville, New York, Pedro Pérez boasts an illustrious career as the Chief Framer at The Museum of Modern Art, where his invaluable stewardship has guided the Frameshop for an impressive span of 35 years.
The “Back the Same Day” exhibit will be open from September 29 – November 26 held in the Miami Design District. This exhibit was curated by Karen Grimson, Director of Cultural Programming, at the Miami Design District.
