Island Records invited us to attend Kidd Kenn’s mixtape party for Child’s Play.
Kenn signed a major record deal with Island last July and has been making strides ever since. The 17-year old openly gay rapper from Chicago has only been rapping for two years now and has already become one of the fastest rising rappers from his city.
The mixtape release party was held at SNS Bar, which was an intimate location for the party. The venue made it easier for Kidd Kenn to feel comfortable interacting with the people in attendance and thank them for their support. He performed a couple of songs off his mixtape and one of them was “Benji”.
Kidd Kenn was able to gain the attention of the audience who was familiar with his music throughout his short performance and was able to give a preview of how some of his new songs sounded live. Kidd Kenn had great energy while performing his songs and was having fun with the crowd and kept saying his favorite phrase “stop playing” which has become part of his brand. He also told us how excited he was for this mixtape to drop and his plans for 2020.
Kidd Kenn’s mixtape Child’s Play already has some early standouts such as “Real Quick” and “Shake Sum”. The project is now available to stream on all music platforms.
