James Adolphus’ informative, heartfelt, and ultimately thought-provoking two hour documentary chronicles the groundbreaking career of visionary Mary Tyler Moore.
The two hour documentary, efficiently paced, speaks true to what the feminist icon stood for by informing the audience rather than forcing a particular message. It never feels like it’s overstepping it’s boundaries, making it easily digestible for pretty much anyone open-minded enough to give it a chance.
In attendance were Director James Adolphus, as well as Producer and Husband Dr. Robert Levine. Acting as a consultant, Dr. Levine was able to keep the story true the his late wife, including both the highs and lows of the Moore’s life as a loving mother and wife, and her community. Producer Debra Martin Chase, Bernadette Peters (The Jerk), and Matthew Asner (son of the very talented Ed Asner) were also in attendance.
Mary Tyler Moore is best known for her role in the 1960’s as housewife and mother Laura Petrie on The Dick Van Dyke Show, and as single working woman Mary Richards on The Mary Tyler Moore Show in the ’70s. Moore won seven Primetime Emmy Awards throughout her impressive career and three Golden Globe Awards. But she didn’t stop there, as she was nominated for the 1981 Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Ordinary People.
We had the pleasure of talking with director James Adolphus, as well as the some of the producers behind the documentary. Watch the full interviews below!
