Last week The Knockturnal attended Ghada Al Buainain & Harlienz’s beautiful runway show for New York Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2019.
Hosted at Pier 59 studios, the Ghada Al Buainain & Harlienz Fall/ Winter 2019 presentation took place last Tuesday, February 12th. The collection is a collaboration between designers Ghada Al Buainain and Haya Aladasani (Harlienz) called “You In Me.” Within the collaboration “You” represents Harlienz and “Me” stands for Ghada. The two designers from Qatar are best friends in real life, Ghada a jewelry designer and Harlienz, a fashion designer, who have come together to share and expand their vision. The two designers come from conservative families and want maintain their authenticity while taking risks.
The collection consisted of several signature looks, all of which resembled abayas, cloak-like garments most commonly worn by Muslim women. The silhouettes were loose and draping, while the color palettes consisted of neutrals and earth tones, with pops of purple. The designers were so drawn to silk, it felt like sheen was an additional accessory to each look. The jewelry was simple, yet elegant and played upon the already glistening material of each look. The makeup also focused on enhancing natural beauty as opposed to drama and focused on glowing faces and slicked back hair.
