Last week Paper Route Entertainment and The Trap Music Museum held a private cocktail reception celebrating the legacy of Young Dolph with the soft launch of the Dolphland Pop-Up Museum.
The Knockturnal was on the scene taking in the various artwork, paintings, photography, sculptures and installations honoring the late artist’s work in addition to the release of his posthumous album Paper Route Frank. The evening had merchandise for purchase as well as complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvres and multiple DJ sets including DJ Clue. Original cocktails included The Memphis Margarita, Dolphland & Paper Route Rout Frank. Tastemakers, industry staples and artists were in attendance including Jim Jones, Dave East & Key Glock.
When you immediately enter the exhibit you are greeted with the exhibit’s mission statement which also shares Dolph’s biography, his journey and many accomplishments. The various rooms in the exhibit pay tribute to different aspects of Dolph such as his music, his love for giving back to the community, his involvement in cannabis etc. One of our favorite sections of the exhibit called Hall of Fame highlights the amazing civic work Dolph did through the Ida Mae Foundation named in honor of his grandmother.
We had the pleasure of speaking with miniaturist, diorama artist August Riche who helped work on one of the installations for the exhibit.
The Knockturnal: How did you get involved?
August Riche: I worked with the Trap Music Museum in atlanta previously and the curator Adella reached out reached out to me initially for Trap Museum and and Skye, the set designer also had hands in the initial design and what not in the Trap Museum and I met her at a viewing in Atlanta and once this idea came around she reached out to me because she noticed I do the miniatures and dioramas and said they’re working on this pop up and said lets go ahead and get his going.
The Knockturnal: Can you please talk about the diorama you created for the pop-up?
August Riche: Yes, so the initial idea was to represent 7 different music videos that also represent where he’s from and his family and his peers so once this idea was presented to me, they gave me the concept of the 7 different music videos and what we’re gonna use and how we can get this interactive diorama to be displayed.
