Old Spice reveals a new game, Youland, powered by Facebook Connect, available June 20th, 2016.
While Old Spice may be best known for its signature scents and now its Hardest Working Collection, with Sweat Defense, Odor Blocker, and Dirt Destroyer, there’s a whole other side of the brand: it’s work as an indie game developer. Sure enough, Old Spice has developed five games since 2012, utilizing new technologies to bring fans of Old Spice and gamers together in a new way to interact. The latest in this line of gaming, which included Revenge of the Kickers, a collaboration with Adult Swim, is YOU LAND, a compelling if not cheeky take on personalized gaming, with you as the main character.
Done up in a kitschy 8-bit style that Old Spice is familiar with, Youland utilizes Facebook connect to populate the multilevel game with you and up to 12 friends. Terry Crews and Isaiah Mustafa, AKA The Man Your Man Could Smell Like make cameos in the game, adding an element of slapstick humor that Old Spice has dabbled in for a few years now- the surreal and the wild, iconized by Isaiah Mustafa, now rooted in cultural memory as ‘Old Spice Guy’. Not to mention Old Spice Guy opened a recent baseball game by riding in on a horse and throwing the first pitch. Legendary!
As for the game, there are three games within it, each with three levels and each inspired by the Hardest Working Collection. Coupled with an original soundtrack, its a big push for Old Spice, who has found a good deal of success in experimental approaches to bringing in new faces to the brand, as well as pampering longtime fans. Youland launches June 20th on Facebook. We suggest checking it out, as even your location, age, interests, and workplace change some aspect of the game to make it completely unique for you!
