Tony Gilroy, Pedro Pascal, Will Arnett, and Eva Victor hit all the right notes with the New York Film Festival selection ‘Behemoth!’.
The NYFF64 Centerpiece selection panel with NYFF programmer Justin Chang was a day of cinema glory and musical expression that pleased a room full of cinephiles and musicians to the soothing song of film magic.
Gilroy directs the script about a former child prodigy living in the shadow of a storied musical family. In Los Angeles he records Hollywood film scores and resolves unfinished family business at the same time. Using a deft flashback structure to weave in and out of his adult life, Gilroy turns Alex’s desire for stability, meaning, and redemption into a compelling drama not to be missed.
“I think the lens through which you’re experiencing the story through Alex makes everyone orbiting him the main character of his experience,” Pascal stated on the panel. “It was a delight to have different planets of energy come into the experience. When Eva was there, it was their movie. When Will was there—even the guy swabbing my cheek for DNA was the main character. I loved that. It helped with being the one there every day, pretending like it was everyone else’s movie.”
The 64th New York Film Festival is presented in partnership with Rolex.
