Norwegian producer Alan Walker (Sony Music Sweden/RCA Records) has taken the EDM world by storm with his debut hit βFaded,” which has shot to the number one spot on both Shazamβs Global Shazam Chart and Worldwide Dance Chart.
Alan Walker is an 18-year-old Norwegian producer who began his musical journey in 2014 when he released his melodic electro house track βFade,” which quickly gained great popularity among gamers. Growing upΒ in the digital era, Alan found an early interest in computers, whichΒ later turned into a fascination for programming and graphic design. In 2012, he started making music on his laptop, and with the help and feedback from his online friends, his songs soon caught the attention of various record labels.
Alanβs recently released single βFaded,” which includes vocals from Iselin Solheim, has catapulted across charts, helping him become one of musicβs hottest new talents.
Congrats on the success of “Faded.” What inspired the song?Β
Thanks! “Faded” is mainly built on my old track “Fade,” which was inspired by Ahrix’s track βNova.” The style is inspired by the Norwegian producer K-391. The melody, I don’t know where it came from, but I try to let my emotions and feelings have a big influence on the melodies I produce.
How was playing the X-Games recently?
X Games was magical. I never in my life thought that I would be one of the artists standing in front of a massive crowd of people! It gave me a great feeling, and it all was so surreal. I don’t know how to describe it, but itβs not like standing in front of your class giving a presentation.
Who are your producer idols?
I would say that my producer idol is K-391, who has been a big inspiration and a part of creating my sound. There are many other artists out there that have been a major influence on my music like DJ Ness, who inspired me to start producing. My music is inspired by movie soundtrack producers, so producers like Hans Zimmer and Steve Jablonsky are other idols of mine.
What artists would you like to collaborate with?
There are so many options out there, but I would say that the producers I dream or hope to collaborate with is TiΓ«sto, Dzeko & Torres, K-391 and Martin Garrix.
What’s the most important lesson you have learned on your musical journey thus far?
The most important lesson I have learned or taught myself is to never give up, even if you feel like doing so. Everyone gets to a breaking point, but you just have to continue working hard and believe in what you do.
What’s your songwriting process like?
The process of songwriting can take a very long time β you must be prepared for anything. Thereβs a lot of back and forth, because itβs nearly impossible to be 100% happy with one track.
What can fans expect from your album?Β
I would say that my fans should expect some very nice melodies with a beautiful voice. I think that my next single will be a great sequel following βFaded.”
