Miami Beach Art Basel is about art. Expensive art.Β
The kind of art that attracts millionaires and celebrities all who flock to the sunny destination to browse, buy and party.Β But, itβs hard to celebrate Basel without paying homage to the city that has hosted it for 18 years.Β Perhaps thatβs why champagne house MoΓ«t & Chandon threw an intimate bash on Thursday night celebrating reggaeton singer (and two-time Latin Grammy nominee) De La Ghetto and his contributions to Miamiβs music scene.Β Famed photographer Jonathon Mannion toasted the artist as part of MoΓ«tβs new Nectar of the Culture campaign.
Mannion has spent the last 25 years documenting βThe Golden Eraβ of hip hop.Β Thursdayβs dinner ushered in the next generation of tastemakers, in what has been dubbed the βRose Gold Era.βΒ The limited-edition bottle is as rose gold on the outside as its liquid on the inside.Β Held in the Drake Room at Mandrake Miami, guests sipped specialty cocktails and dined on a multi-course menu of caviar, eggplant, salads and dessert.Β Framed photos of Rafael Castillo aka De La Ghetto decorated the walls as Mannion raised a glass to the singerβs βHollywood charm.βΒ βWhen I first met him, I said to myself, βthis guy has itβ¦ But it was off camera when it was just him and I that I got to know the real him,'” remarked Mannion.
Guests included big names like Pusha T, DJ Irie, Quincat, King Hoodie, Teheran Jones of Exclusive Game and more. After the dinner, the party continued at Miami hotspot MokaiΒ where Tory Lanez, Don C and more attended to celebrate the occasion.Β Art Basel may be over Sunday, but MoΓ«t and Mannion will continue to celebrate various pioneers in key cities across the U.S including Atlanta, LA and Chicago.
