In his debut single, ‘Never,’ featuring Sofia Reyes, Awgust effortlessly weaves between English and Spanish as he sings about seeking closure at the end of a relationship and taking ownership of his past mistakes.
During his special performance held over Zoom on August 11th, Awgust revealed his vulnerability, remarking, ‘It’s all the things I never got to say to my ex. We left off at a really bad place and it was like a screaming match the last time we even spoke. So ‘Never,’ to me, is closure on a personal level and I think in the bigger picture it’s about putting your pride aside and being able to admit the bad that you contributed.’
Listeners also got the chance to hear Awgust’s self-proclaimed ‘quarantine baby’: his new song, ‘Lonely Kills.’ Awgust explained, ‘It was written during quarantine, honestly from one of the most painful depths of my emotion. It’s been an incredible experience ever since linking up with Tommy (Mottola) and just kind of the flow of everything, it feels like all these things are coming to the surface that I need to say.’
Awgust, who was born to Venezuelan parents, and grew up in Texas, finds his inspiration in Mariah Carey, the Spice Girls, and No Doubt, to name a few. Prior to his solo debut, he was a member of the boyband ‘Midnight Red,’ who were signed to Interscope Records, and toured with artists including Fifth Harmony and Selena Gomez. After listening to Awgust’s Zoom performance, it’s clear his raw talent, ambition and authenticity will no doubt capture the attention of listeners around the world.
