So you think you’ve heard it all when it comes to dating shows.
When we think of dating shows we usually think of hopeful singles traveling to islands, mansions and even windowless pods, all driven by the pursuit of romance (and maybe an Instagram sponsorship or two).
But have you ever heard of these contestants heading off to a farm?
Farmer Wants a Wife is Fox’s newest reality television show and is unlike anything else playing on the dating show circuit. The show, hosted by Grammy award winning singer-songwriter Jennifer Nettles, follows four farmers, Ryan Black, Allen Foster, Hunter Grayson and Landon Heaton on their journey to find true, everlasting love. After an initial round of dates, the farmers then pick which of the once urban dwelling ladies will get to head back to their respective farms. As each week goes by, viewers get to watch the farmers introduce the contestants to the ins and outs of farm life while the women must decide if they’re down with the ranch hand lifestyle for the long haul—even if it means turning down a shot at love.
Farmer Wants a Wife has aired in 32 countries, taking place in the U.K., Australia, Hungary and South Africa to name a few. The show has resulted in 180 marriages and 410 children. Given the premise of the show, the track record makes sense —after all, nothing says commitment like learning how to shovel manure for bae.
The show had its official premiere last week and luckily for us, we got to meet the four farmers before they graced our television screens. Watch the clips above to the four farmers as they answer questions about the casting process, their friends and family’s reactions, what they wish they knew going in and perhaps most importantly, how the experience changed their views on love.
Farmer Wants a Wife will be airing its second episode this Wednesday, March 15th at 9/8C on Fox. The first episode is currently available to stream on the Fox website.
