Check out our exclusive interview with DMB Gotti!

We caught up with Los Angeles rapper and Asylum Records signee DMB Gotti. With an inspiring story of overcoming the odds and pursuing his passion, DMB Gotti has been making music for little over a year and has already caught the attention of labels and peers such as Mozzy, Saweetie, and Marshmello.  After releasing seven singles last year including his most notable work “Peter Piper”, DMB Gotti is gearing up for a tour with G Herbo as well as the release of his first-ever EP.  DMB Gotti’s life has completely changed since the release of “Peter Piper,” with many ups and downs, DMB Gotti has no intention of slowing down anytime soon.  Check out what else DMB Gotti had to say in our exclusive interview below.

The Knockturnal: Let’s talk about what was going on in your life before “Peter Piper.”

DMB Gotti: How far back do you want to go?  We’ll go two years back.  I went to jail and f**ked up my life.  I was a football player man, I felt like I was dope, I was fast and went to a good high school.  I made a mistake and I guess I got bored with life; I thought I was smarter than the system, made a mistake and I got out two-and-a-half years later. I couldn’t go back to playing football. When I got out of jail in the Summer of 2018 I was at a standstill.  I couldn’t get a job, I dropped a song last January with my boy, but it wasn’t my song and it didn’t motivate me enough to say ‘this is what I wanna do’ so I was still chasing jobs.  I worked at a warehouse, I worked at Chipotle for two days- that was the hardest job I ever had to get.  It was only two days!

The Knockturnal: What happened at Chipotle?

DMB Gotti: People can’t keep coming in telling me what to do.  I didn’t know what I was gonna do in life, but I knew I wasn’t gonna -I just feel like working for yourself is the best. I was still training and I quit.  I wasn’t even hands-on.  I was working this warehouse job up until July/August of last year and I would just write, write, write.  My drive was like 45 minutes to work and I’d write on the way to work and write on my way back. I used to show my boy a lot of songs when I showed him “Peter Piper”, he was like we’re gonna record that right now.

The Knockturnal: Can you talk about writing Peter Piper?

DMB Gotti: It took me three days to write “Peter Piper” and I was writing songs in between, but that was just the one – like I can’t say no bulls*** on this.  I didn’t know it was gonna get like this, but I liked it so I knew everybody else was going to like it.

The Knockturnal: Who was the first person you shared the track with?

DMB Gotti: My boy Adrian, that was my old manager.  The record went crazy.  He’s the one who motivated me to get in the studio and he’s the one who paid for the session and all that.

The Knockturnal: How has your life changed after “Peter Piper?”

DMB Gotti: People started catching on, Marshmello posted a video, so did Saweetie, it’s just kind and genuine support from everywhere.  Mozzy tapped in with your boy so it’s been dope.

The Knockturnal: Any features with Mozzy on the way?

DMB Gotti: I was at the movies and my boy connected with him.  My boy was blowing my phone up and kept telling me to send him a beat and I finally sent the beat and went back to the movies. He called me again and was like “pull up bro, come to the studio” and at this point I swear my boy up to something.  I get my boy and we go to the studio.  We pull up and see a Maserati, a black Masi and everyone knows Mozzy got a Masi. We walk in and Mozzy in there recording, he walked out the booth and said: “Lil brother, you ready?” I was under some pressure man, but we went in there and got it done.

The Knockturnal: When can we expect that feature to drop?

DMB Gotti: Soon, man! The EP coming soon.  It’s done now just connecting loose ends.

The Knockturnal: Do you have a name for your EP?

DMB Gotti: So my jaw is broken.  I wanna incorporate the wires in there somewhere.  I made Peter Piper with this (wire) and every song I made on the EP was with my jaw broken, so the day I got out of surgery I made a song with my jaw wired up.

The Knockturnal: How’re you feeling about touring with G Herbo and your first show tonight?

DMB Gotti: First stop on my first tour, honestly I’m feeling good, man.  Of course, I’m nervous.  It’s G Herbo, but I’m ready to go.  It is what it is.  I’m confident in what I got to bring.  I’m excited honestly.  30 dates on the tour and it’s my first tour ever.

The Knockturnal: What city are you most excited to stop at?

DMB Gotti: Atlanta and definitely back home.

The Knockturnal: What else do you have on the way?

DMB Gotti: I just dropped a single called “Perc Talk” featuring my boy KingMostWanted, it’s going crazy.

The Knockturnal: Are you going to do a visual for “Perc Talk?”

DMB Gotti: Yeah definitely, and when we get back to the city we working on a visual with Mozzy.
