Loire Valley Wine Tasting at the New York Yacht Club

On April 21, The Knockturnal attended a tasting hosted by Vins de Loire (Loire Wines) at the New York Yacht Club. What began as a curated meal, transformed into a night shaped by history, discovery, and conversation.

The experience featured Loire Valley Wines, each bottle thoughtfully paired with every stage of the meal, from the starter to the entrée and dessert. From the first pour, the room settled into a calm sense of curiosity as every glass offered something distinct, from crisp, mineral-driven expressions to brighter, more vibrant profiles, reflecting the diversity of the region.

Each course moved in step with the wine. Fresh greens and Muscadet opened the meal, followed by richer plates like steak, roast chicken, and tilefish. As the dinner unfolded, attention shifted from tasting to observation. Guests compared impressions, lingered over each glass, and stayed present with what was in front of them. The atmosphere was the ultimate reminder that wine can be both approachable and memorable without feeling intimidating or no pressure to overanalyze.

By the end of the night, guests made their way to the rooftop terrace overlooking the Hudson River, where conversations continued as the city glistened.

Beyond the table, there was a larger focus at hand. For more than two decades, Wines of Loire has centered its work on long-term thinking and environmental responsibility. Today, the region is moving toward full environmental certification across all estates and producers by 2030. It’s an approach that feels increasingly relevant as sustainability continues to shape the future of food and wine, both for producers and consumers.
